The Milverton Community Benefit Society was formed with the aim of ensuring that The Globe remained a pub for our village, owned and run for the benefit of the community. Despite extensive efforts and engagement with various stakeholders, we have been unable to raise the necessary funds to make a viable offer to the current owners.

As members of the Milverton Community Benefit Society, we’ve always had one aim: to keep The Globe open for Milverton. Sadly, at this moment, that goal hasn’t been met. The Globe is closed. We’ve raised £170,000 from generous villagers so far—but to make a realistic offer to the Tarry’s, we need to reach our target of £580,000…..

The time has come for our community to step up. We have been asking for your help for sometime now to invest in our plan to buy The Globe. That is not what this particular message is about though, we need your help far more urgently than that.

We are closing in on the final stretch, but as anyone who’s ambled past our high-tech funding thermometer emblazoned across the side of the pub will know, there’s still more fundraising to be done.

As promised during our presentation on March 20th, we want to keep you in the loop about the progress of our Community Benefit Society. We're thrilled to announce that our Business Plan has evolved into version 2.0

At the village presentation on 20th May there were some sharp intakes of breath when we announced we were seeking to appoint a Tenant to run The Globe. In hindsight, as a Management Committee we do not believe we addressed these concerns appropriately at the time and hope to expand on our rationale for this choice here.

Last night the Milverton Community Benefit Society made another presentation to the village at The Victoria Rooms. Again, there was standing room only to hear about what has been happening since September, 2023 and share the next steps we, as a whole community need to take to secure The Globe, as a pub within the village of Milverton.

The Milverton Community Benefit Society are holding a meeting for the whole community to update you on the progress we are making to purchasing the pub.

We are delighted to share with you the results of the recent survey conducted in November and December regarding the future of The Globe. Your participation has been invaluable in shaping the direction of our community initiative to potentially acquire The Globe as a Community Pub.

A lot of things have been going on in the background since our highly attended meeting in The Victoria Rooms in September. We’re really pleased to tell you that we have jumped a few hurdles and now have a legal body set up to try to buy The Globe. “The Milverton Benefit Society Ltd” is recognised by the Financial Conduct Authority and a bank account has been set up.

The Milverton Community Benefit Society is searching for a dedicated community member willing to contribute their time (a few hours per week) and skills on a voluntary basis to help us create and implement a marketing strategy.

Last night, the Milverton Community Benefit Society hosted a captivating presentation at The Victoria Rooms, where they shared updates on their ongoing efforts, addressed challenges ahead, and outlined their vision for preserving a beloved village institution—the village pub. The event saw an overwhelming turnout, with attendees filling every available space - only standing room was left, making it a resounding success.
