We need your help NOW to stop the imminent closure of The Globe
Dear Neighbours and Friends,
The time has come for our community to step up. We have been asking for your help for sometime now to invest in our plan to buy The Globe. That is not what this particular message is about though, we need your help far more urgently than that.
We need you to get out there and use The Globe now.
We need you to spread the word that The Globe is still open for business.
Because if we don’t come together as a community right now, the doors will be closing sooner rather than later.
Why this plea for help? Why now?
Despite Mark and Adele having been patient with our fundraising efforts, the election delayed the decisions over the available government grant funding (that is rolling on and we will provide updates in due course). The big problem is that with all this talk of “saving The Globe”, footfall into the pub has dramatically fallen. Their takings have fallen in recent months and they are now in the very real position of considering the early closing of the pub.
We need to get the word out that our village pub is very much open for business right now.
The mission of Milverton Community Benefit Society has always been to ensure we keep a pub in the village of Milverton. Sadly, we are in danger of losing the benefit of our village pub within the next month.
Yesterday two of our Milverton Community Benefit Society members met with Mark Tarry, (Landlord of The Globe along with his wife Adele). Mark told us that they will have to close the doors of The Globe unless business picks up immediately.
Quite simply, there have not been enough people using the pub over the last three months to make it financially viable.
Apart from Mark the employees are our young people from Milverton, who will be in danger of losing their jobs. Over the last few months the turnover has fallen short of the money needed to break even, let alone make a profit in order to sustain Mark, Adele & their family.
If we do not use the pub more often AND consistently right away the doors will shut!
So what can you do to help?
Pop in for a pint.
Stop in for dinner.
Tell other people about the Globe needing their immediate help.
Don’t put off doing the above until it’s too late.
Many of you will be aware that Adele has been working a full-time job outside the pub for a few months now on top of keeping the bar running. Mark has candidly told us that he now is looking for a job also. This is not what he wants, but there is little choice left without customers through the door. Mark would much rather be the publican he set out to be, and that he has been for the last 18 years serving this community, collectively we have the power to change that around.
Kind regards,
MCBS Committee
P.S. The opening times are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings along with a fantastic Sunday Lunch.
P.P.S. Before anyone asks, we are still awaiting the outcome of our grant application to help us purchase The Globe. This is due to the political changes recently and more news will follow.
