The Globe, Milverton. An important update…
Update on The Globe Project
The Milverton Community Benefit Society (MCBS) was formed with the aim of ensuring that The Globe remained a pub for our village, owned and run for the benefit of the community. Despite extensive efforts and engagement with various stakeholders, we have been unable to raise the necessary funds to make a viable offer to the current owners.
We explored opportunities for government grants and engaged with local representatives, including our MP, Rachel Gilmour. Unfortunately, no tangible progress has been made, and with ongoing uncertainty surrounding grant timelines, we have made the decision to move forward with the following actions:
Our Next Steps
1. Winding Up the project to keep The Globe: The Society will formally wind up the project to purchase The Globe. As part of this process, we will return funds to investors, ensuring that the majority of contributions are reimbursed. We aim to complete repayments by 28 February 2025.
2. Maintaining the MCBS: While the project to save The Globe is ending, the Society itself will remain active in a dormant state, retaining any remaining funds in an interest-bearing account. This approach allows us to act quickly should new funding opportunities arise in the future.
Protecting The Globe
In the meantime, we have applied to register The Globe as an Asset of Community Value to safeguard its role as a vital space for the village.
We are grateful for the support of everyone who has contributed to this initiative. We remain committed to serving Milverton’s community and will continue to explore ways to make a positive impact. Updates will be shared as they become available.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
